You Say Reparations, I Say Go Fuck Yourself

May 2, 2014

For the 24th straight year in a row, Congressman and demented suckfish John Conyers has introduced his Reparations bill. This bill would allow for reparations to be given to the descendants of family members who were slaves 150 years ago. Aside from the fact that Conyers should have his ass kicked for thinking that anyone alive today is responsible for the actions of people that lived over a century and a half ago, it’s his demented thinking that has brought about a ridiculous sense of entitlement in areas like Detroit. Let me explain. A few weeks ago, an African American teen started a protest because she was denied entry into the University of Michigan. Keep in mind, the requirements to even apply are a grade point average of 3.8 and an ACT test score of 28. This girl had a GPA of 3.6 and an ACT test score of 23, and yet, she declared the following (and I quote) “I left the plantation and the university is trying to put me back there. Every rejection letter they send to African Americans is a noose that I will collect.” Think about that for a moment. This is a teenage girl living in the 21st century talking about having left the plantation because she was denied entry to a school she didn’t even have the grades to apply for. Suddenly hack columnists like Rochelle Riley and Stephen Henderson were talking about how African American teens get robbed of opportunities at Universities in America because of their race. Funny, just yesterday there was an article about an African American teen who applied to every Ivy School in the country…and was accepted by all of them. Why? Because he had a straight 4.0 and a 36 ACT. Not once during his five minute interview did the words plantation, slavery, or noose come up. Why? because as he puts it “My goal was to become a Doctor and I am willing to work as hard as needed to reach my dream.” Huh. Hard work over handouts, what a weird concept.

I remember reparations talks coming up ever since I was a kid. The idea seemed strange to me. Probably because some of my Irish ancestors were sold into slavery and any talks of that are met with cries of racism. Or, maybe it’s because on my fathers side, my Indian ancestors were stripped of their land and rights, and either slaughtered or tossed on reservations. But hey the government threw them a few casinos so that makes up for everything. Then again, it could be because some of my ancestors were persecuted by the Catholic Church for being Pagans. But that’s in the past, the church no longer uses torture as a method of conversion.  Do you see where I’m going with this?

I’m not going to apologize for being angry about this. How long are we expected to be held accountable for something that happened 150 years ago? How long are you lunatics going to use slavery as a crutch to explain why you are being held down? Do you see me demanding reparations from the government due to the treatment my Indian or Irish ancestors suffered? No. Why? Because I wasn’t alive back then. It didn’t happen to me. It’s not my right to demand payment from people who weren’t alive at the time because my ancestors suffered. Sure, it makes me feel sad when I think of what they endured, but you know how I honor them? By becoming something more than they had the chance to become. I honor them by working hard and living tall because I am NOT on a reservation and I am NOT a slave. Then again, I guess it would be easier to blame others and wait for an undeserved handout…after all, that seems to be the lay of the land now.
